SDS 2023 Employment Report for M.Sc. in Data Science Graduates
On 19 April, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, officially released the 2023 Employment Quality Report for graduates of the Master of Science Programme in Data Science. Despite the challenging job market due to a record high number of university graduates, the employment rate for the 2023 cohort of the M.Sc. in Data Science remained at an impressive 100%. Both the average and median annual salaries stood at RMB 355,000, indicating a high and stable income level. The average annual salary saw a year-on-year increase of 3.8%, demonstrating steady growth. Among those who secured immediate employment, 39% joined tech and internet companies, while another 39% entered financial institutions. The graduates found positions primarily in cutting-edge industries and core technology roles. Notably, 91% of employed graduates began their careers in first-tier cities, securing roles at prestigious companies such as Tencent, Huawei, Alibaba, ByteDance, Morgan Stanley, and China Taiping Insurance (HK).
These figures underscore the strong competitive edge of CUHK-Shenzhen’s M.Sc. in Data Science graduates in the current job market. In an era marked by the rapid advancement of the digital economy and continuous AI upgrades, industries are experiencing fast-paced changes in business models and operational logic. The blurring of job boundaries has led to an increased demand for versatile talents. The remarkable employment success of the 2023 graduates reflects the programme's alignment with market needs.
The M.Sc. in Data Science programme at CUHK-Shenzhen is a collaborative initiative between the School of Data Science and the School of Management and Economics, in partnership with the Shenzhen Research Institute of Big Data and the Shenzhen Finance Institute. The programme adheres to a unique educational philosophy that integrates big data with business. In October 2023, the programme retained its top position in China in the QS 2024 Master's in Business Analytics Ranking. Moreover, it achieved a global ranking of 7th in the "Employability" category, reflecting its commitment to producing highly employable graduates.
