The School of Data Science at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, had 15 papers accepted at the 2024 International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML). ICML is one of the premier international academic conferences in the fields of machine learning and artificial intelligence. It is recognised as one of the oldest, largest, and most influential conferences in the machine learning domain and is recommended as an A-class conference by the China Computer Federation (CCF). This year, ICML received 9,473 paper submissions, of which 2,609 were accepted, resulting in an acceptance rate of 27.5%.

The admitted papers were contributed by a diverse group from the school, including four master’s students, ten Ph.D. students, one research assistant, and eleven professors. This impressive achievement showcases the research potential and capabilities of the school’s students. Over the past year, students from the School of Data Science have published a total of 62 papers in international academic conferences and prestigious journals. These include top conferences like NeurIPS, ICML, ICASSP, ICLR, ACL, ICRA, and CVPR, as well as top journals such as Operations Research, SIAM Journal on Optimization, and Briefings in Bioinformatics. Their research spans various fields, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, computational neuroscience, computer vision, natural language processing, robotics, operations research, mathematics, computational biology, and applied mathematics.

International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML)

ICML is one of the annual top international conferences on machine learning hosted by the International Machine Learning Society (IMLS). It has extensive and far-reaching international influence and has received extensive attention from academia and industry. It is also a Class A conference recommended by the China Computer Federation (CCF).

Founded in 1980, ICML is held every year in mid-to-late June. The 40th International Conference on Machine Learning ICML 2023 was held in Hawaii, USA from July 23 to 29, 2023.

The conference focuses on areas ranging from computer vision, statistics and data science to robotics, with the aim of bringing the artificial intelligence (AI) community together to share new ideas, tools and datasets, and to make connections to advance the field.
