Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Big Data Computing

1) Research Base

       The laboratory has 33 research staffs, including 9 professors, 9associate professors and 15 assistant professors. It has about 3168 square meters of research space, purchased experimental equipment worth more than 10 million and has built several research platforms. The research team has made positive contributions in solving major key problems in national economic and social development: the core algorithms designed and proposed have been applied in Huawei's products and won Huawei's internal awards; the team has led and participated in many national and provincial key projects, and is expected to break the foreign blockade and lead the world in the research of data-driven 6G wireless communication system in the near future.

2) Research content

       With the theme of "Basic Theory and Methods of Big Data Computing", the lab is oriented to the core theories and computing methods in data science and big data technology, taking the exploration of big data theories and computing methods as the breakthrough point, exploring the core problems of big data theories and computing methods, and applying big data methods to the core social operation in an innovative way.

        The research directions and main contents include: 1. Big data basic theory: research about big data collection and storage, data security and privacy; 2. Big data computing methods: propose large-scale asynchronous distributed, parallel analysis and computing techniques, reinforcement learning algorithms and robust machine learning algorithms to achieve efficient processing of data with massive scale, unstructured, heterogeneous sources, uneven distribution, security and privacy sensitivity under resource-constrained dynamic data networks. 3. Big data application technologies: Big data-driven smart healthcare, big data-driven smart network and big data-driven smart supply chain research.

3) Operation Mechanism

      The laboratory is supported by the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen and is under the guidance of the academic committee. The director of the laboratory is responsible for the construction and management of the laboratory, and there are two deputy directors to assist in the management of scientific research and administrative affairs. Initially, three research centers will be set up, which are "Big Data Basic Theory", "Big Data Computing Methods", and "Big Data Application Technology", and the related research directions can be added later according to the development of the laboratory and scientific theories in the field of big data. The research centers of related research directions can be added later. The internal administrative organization meets the needs of the laboratory in research, personnel, finance and logistics area.

       The lab adopts the strategies of relying on, absorbing, introducing, in-linking and out-linking to share the excellent talents and advantageous research resources in big data related fields from Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao, other regions of China and international famous research institutions, so as to gradually form a first-class research platform with international and domestic influence.
