Research Center on Smart Cloud and Internet of Things
Research Center on Smart Cloud and Internet of Things is led by Professor Hwang Kai from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. It is committed to integrating artificial intelligence, distributed cloud computing (including edge cloud platform), 5G Internet of Things and other high-tech technologies to establish a new multi-agent intelligent cloud-based ecosystem for smart healthcare.
The center's research projects include the establishment of 1. a multi-agent intelligent cloud platform, 2. a distributed cloud healthcare system, 3. a medical big data collection, storage, indexing and analysis system based on 5G IoT and network slicing, 4. deep learning based remote medical diagnosis and pathology, 5. medical industry internet and social promotion services, etc.
The proposed smart healthcare cloud ecosystem employs cloud computing, artificial intelligence technology, and 5G IoT to construct an efficient management and analysis platform with reliable medical big data collection and transmission method. The ecosystem intents to integrate and interconnect both digital entities in the cloud system and physical entities in the medical system combined with medical domain knowledge.
The interconnection of hospital, doctors, and patient enables automated and efficient operations, structured medical case information, big data-driven decision-making, and intelligent diagnosis. It further provides provide patients with high-quality medical services, and form a complete cloud-edge-device intelligent healthcare ecosystem, and promote the upgrading of public medical services.
From 2020 to 2021, the center published a dozen of high-quality papers in international top journals, including multifunctional system development of the intelligent cloud hardware and software, unlabeled machine learning, wireless caching, cloud healthcare and disease control. The center also constructed a prototype of a multi-agent intelligent cloud system including 5G dedicate network at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen campus, which provides services about cloud computing, big data storage, and deep learning task for multiple research teams. The project " Cognitive Cloud and 5G IoT for Public Healthcare Ecosystem " declared by the center in cooperation with Huazhong University of Science and Technology and the Cloud Computing Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences won the 2020 Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Natural Science Award.
