Biography:
Professor E is a professor in the School of Mathematical Sciences at Peking University. His main research interests are numerical algorithms, machine learning, and multiscale modeling with applications in chemistry, materials science, biology, and fluid mechanics. He is the director of the Center for Machine Learning Research at Peking University and the AI for Science Institute in Beijing. Before joining Peking University, he held a professorship in the Department of Mathematics and the Program in Applied and Computational Mathematics at Princeton University. Professor E is a Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Among his many honors are the ICIAM Collatz Prize in 2003 and the ICIAM Maxwell Prize in 2023. They are the highest prizes given by the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics for young and established applied mathematicians, respectively. Professor E was an invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in 2002 and a plenary speaker at the same event in 2022.
