Medical AI Center
Medical AI Center (MAC), affiliated with the School of Data Science, was established in April 2023 with approval from the Executive Board of the School. Originally named the Health Informatics Research Center, it was later renamed to its current title.
Research Objectives
The Center aims to integrate research resources in medical data science and artificial intelligence, forming complementary collaboration with the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) School of Medicine. It serves as an influential research team for applying and executing both industry-academia collaborative (horizontal) projects and government-funded (vertical) projects. The Center has established a substantial research team in healthcare with growing international recognition. Members' research covers multiple domains:
- AI-assisted multidisciplinary consultation and clinical decision-making
- Medical diagnosis using large language models (LLMs) and multimodal data
- Personalized medicine based on omics data (genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics)
- Data-driven hospital operations optimization
Educational Contributions
Representing SDS, center members have collaborated with the School of Medicine to:
- Establish and operate the Master of Science (MSc) in Bioinformatics program
- Develop two doctoral programs recently approved by MOE:
- Computational Biology and Health Informatics (Health Informatics stream)
- Epidemiology and Biostatistics (Biostatistics stream)
- Computational Biology and Health Informatics (Health Informatics stream)
The center will integrate research and development, education, training, and industrialization into a cohesive entity. Driven by intelligent technologies, it aims to promote interdisciplinary integration and innovation between biomedical sciences and artificial intelligence.
