Center for AI Foundations and Algorithms
The Center for AI Foundations and Algorithms is dedicated to addressing foundational theoretical and algorithmic challenges critical to artificial intelligence. The center places particular emphasis on understanding the underlying mathematical structures and theoretical properties of machine learning methods, with specific focus on deep learning architectures, training methods, algorithmic efficiency, robustness, and adaptability. Current advances in machine learning, particularly deep and reinforcement learning, often rely heavily on empirical insights and extensive tuning, leading to limitations when these techniques are applied to new domains such as smart manufacturing, IoT, autonomous driving, and new energy technologies. Through rigorous theoretical analysis and algorithmic innovation, the center seeks to enhance the fundamental understanding and robustness of machine learning methods, enabling their effective and reliable deployment in diverse real-world applications.
With a team of world-class researchers and faculty, the center aims to establish itself as an internationally recognized hub for foundational AI research, addressing key mathematical challenges underlying modern artificial intelligence. the center closely collaborates with leading research institutions, including the Guangdong Key Laboratory of Mathematical Foundations for Artificial Intelligence and the Shenzhen International Center for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. These partnerships leverage regional strengths and complementary expertise to jointly advance theoretical breakthroughs and algorithmic innovations in artificial intelligence, facilitating sustainable development and global impact.
