Introduction
Statistics is the discipline of the collection, analysis and interpretation of data to obtain information and support decision-making. To meet the rising demand for well-trained Statistics graduates in the information age, the programme’s curriculum is designed to encompass the core subjects of the fields such as finance, business, engineering, medicine and government policy, while maintaining a balance between theory and practice. Graduates equipped with a solid training in statistical and computing skills will play a key role in solving various statistical problems.
The Statistics programme provides three streams for the students to choose, which are:
1) Data Science: using advanced computer technology and statistical theory, mining "knowledge" in data.
2) Financial Statistics: collecting information of various financial business activities, analyzing the trend of financial, supporting decision-making of financial investment and risk control.
3) Statistical Science: studying statistics from a mathematical point of view to support the theoretical development of Applied Statistics.
Graduates in Statistics can go to graduate school for further studies. They are also capable to work in the fields of finance, market research and quality inspection in government, banks, insurance companies, securities companies, consulting companies and enterprises, etc.
Career Development
In this programme, 86% of the graduates went to world-class universities for further study, 55% of them studying in QS top 50 universities, such as MIT, Cornell University, Columbia University, Johns Hopkins University, University of Southern California, London School of Economics and Political Science, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, The University of Sydney, University of Melbourne, The University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, etc. 13% of the graduates choose to work after graduation. They were employed by well-known companies, such as Deloitte, DJI Innovations, China Construction Bank, BGI Group, Shenzhen Rural Commercial Bank, among others.
