Data Science and Big Data Technology provides a systematic curriculum of data collection, management, analysis, decision-making and etc. on the basis of mathematics and statistics foundations. Its contents include operations research, machine learning, optimization, operation management, decision science and other related interdisciplinary fields. In addition to these basic knowledge, our programme also cultivates students' ability to perform data analytics in a real environment through real case study and analysis of actual data.
Statistics is the discipline of the collection, analysis and interpretation of data to obtain information and support decision-making. To meet the rising demand for well-trained Statistics graduates in the information age, the programme’s curriculum is designed to encompass the core subjects of the fields such as finance, business, engineering, medicine and government policy, while maintaining a balance between theory and practice. Graduates equipped with a solid training in statistical and computing skills will play a key role in solving various statistical problems.

In this programme, machine learning, artificial intelligence and data science will be the key application directions. Students will acquire a solid foundation in math and extend knowledge in cross-disciplinary applications. They will also master the knowledge and skills of computer which enable them to obtain strong analysis, design, programming and application capabilities of computer systems.

Financial Engineering is jointly launched by the School of Management and Economics (SME), the School of Science and Engineering (SSE) and the School of Data Science (SDS). The programme is set up to meet the finance industry’s demand for graduates with strong quantitative and analytical skills who have the potential to become leaders in the finance industry. Graduates are equipped with sound financial modeling and forecasting skills, and are ideally suited to positions and tasks that require strong quantitative and analytical skills such as valuation, portfolio analysis, asset allocation, credit analysis, risk modeling, and structured finance. The programme also provides a good foundation for careers in investment banking, commercial and corporate banking and financial services.
