On September 15, 2022, the Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Pattern Analysis and Perceptual Computing of the School of Data Science, CUHK-Shenzhen (Piloting Phase) held an inauguration ceremony and the first academic exchange and committee meeting.

From July 19 to July 22, 2022, three teams from CUHK-Shenzhen participated in the 46th International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Asia-East Continent Final (EC-Final), competing with 363 teams from 160 schools, and finally won 1 gold and 1 bronze, achieving a breakthrough in the number of awards won by CUHK-Shenzhen in the ICPC EC-Final, reflecting the effectiveness of international talent cultivation of CUHK-Shenzhen.

In 2022, M.Sc. in Data Science at CUHK-Shenzhen made its initial entrance into the globally well-known QS World University Business Masters Ranking 2023 by ranking first in China, second in Asia, and 23rd globally, according to the QS Business Master’s Rankings 2023: Business Analytics. QS World University Business Masters Ranking 2023 ranks more than 600 MS programs from 26 countries worldwide in five subjects, which are management, finance, marketing, business analysis, and supply chain management.

In September 2022, the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Education published the list of accomplished institutions and individuals in Shenzhen's education sector in 2022. Four professors from CUHK-Shenzhen were awarded the honorary title of 2022 Accomplished Educator of Shenzhen. Among them, Professor Tianshi Chen from the School of Data Science was awarded the honorary title of “Shenzhen Accomplished Educator - Excellent Teacher".

On August 29th and 30th, the School of Data Science (SDS), CUHK-Shenzhen, held a two-day orientation event for freshmen.

In July 2022, "Research on Knowledge Graph Construction Technology for R&D Data" by Professor Yixiang Fang from the School of Data Science, CUHK-Shenzhen, was awarded the 2022 CCF-Huawei Populus euphratica Fund-Software Engineering Special Fund. The program stood out from 47 valid submissions from more than 20 universities and research institutes, and finally became one of eight approved programs.

On June 7th, the General Office of the Ministry of Education announced the 2021 first-class undergraduate of national and provincial level major construction site list. Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), the major of the School of Data Science, CUHK-Shenzhen, was recognized as the national first-class undergraduate major.

中国工程院于11月18日公布2021年中国工程院院士增选结果。香港中文大学（深圳） 副校长罗智泉教授当选中国工程院外籍院士。 罗智泉教授是中国工程院外籍院士、加拿大皇家科学院院士、香港中文大学（深圳）副校长、深圳市大数据研究院院长、香港中文大学（深圳）—深圳市大数据研究院—华为未来网络系统优化创新实验室主任、广东省大数据计算基础理论与方法重点实验室主任。他于1984年获北京大学数学系学士学位，1989年获美国麻省理工学院电子工程与计算机科学系博士学位。他是SIAM 会士和IEEE 会士以及IEEE信号处理期刊主编（2012-2014）。

11月16日，香港中文大学（深圳）数据科学学院校长讲座教授张大鹏荣膺2021年度全球“高被引科学家”（Highly Cited Researchers）。“高被引科学家”榜单由科睿唯安（Clarivate）自2014年设立，张大鹏教授自榜单设立以来已连续8年入选。据Clarivate官方信息，入选“高被引科学家”的学者们其被引频次位于同学科前1%，这代表了对学者本人过去10年科学成就的肯定。新华网评价该榜单：“入选‘高被引科学家’名单，意味着该学者在其研究领域具有世界级影响力，其科研成果为该领域发展作出了较大贡献”。

香港中文大学（深圳）数据科学学院宋彦教授团队9篇论文被自然语言处理旗舰会议ACL-2021接收，论文涉及多项自然语言理解和生成任务，以及信息抽取相关任务。ACL是自然语言处理领域水平最高、最权威的国际会议，被《中国计算机学会推荐国际学术会议和期刊目录（2019）》评为人工智能A类学术会议。
