摘要：

The scale and complexity of flow data have been growing over the last decades. This renders the traditional flow visualization limited, as it require an overwhelming amount of information to be presented in the screen with limited 2D space. To tackle this challenge, interactive exploration techniques allow users to specify the structures of interest for visualization and reduce the visual complexity. In this talk, we will discuss the research in interactive flow visualization using two of our recent work as examples. Our discussion will focus on two aspects: how the abstract space may help to observe and interact with the complicated flow structures, and how the emerging interaction techniques can be applied to the flow visualization.

简介：

Jun Tao is an associate professor of computer science at Sun Yat-sen University and National Supercomputer Center in Guangzhou. Prior to this, he was a postdoctoral researcher at University of Notre Dame. He received a PhD degree in computer science from Michigan Technological University in 2015. His major research interest is scientific visualization, especially developing interactive techniques for exploring flow fields and time-varying multivariate data. He serves on organization committee and program committee of leading visualization conferences, such as IEEE VIS, PacificVis, and ChinaVis; and editorial board of the Visual Informatics journal.
