The School of Data Science (SDS) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is established in July 2020.

SDS focuses on first-class teaching and academic   research in data science. It has established a systematic education system in data science, including theoretical aspects such as operations research, statistics, computer science, and application fields such as machine   learning, operations management, and decision analytics, providing students with comprehensive and state-of-the-art training. With the aim to nurture high-end talent with global perspective, Chinese tradition and social   responsibility, the school is organically combining industry, education, and research, determined to become the world's leading data science innovation   and research base, as well as cultivating top innovative talents with a   global perspective.

SDS is established on a solid foundation with a strong faculty team. All faculties in SDS have doctoral degrees from world-class universities. Many of them also have experiences in working in top-tier universities in the world and have significant international impact in related fields of academia and industry.

Shenzhen Research Institute of Big Data
 

Shenzhen Research Institute of Big Data (SRIBD) was established in March 2016, initially by the team on information processing and application in big data related field, led by Prof. Zhi-quan Luo, a member of China Academy of Engineering. In 2019, SRIBD became a Shenzhen City Institute for Fundamental Research.

Focusing on Mathematics and applications of data science, SRIBD devotes its efforts in three major research directions: theories and algorithms, common software and technologies, and applications of big data.  SRIBD strives to be a world class research institute and a platform for international collaboration, to contribute to the development of China big data industry, to advance big data research and development, and to create social and commercial impact in Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area.

SRIBD has gathered a number of international big data leaders, including academicians, National Outstanding Youth Fund recipients, and Changjiang Scholars. There are nearly 400 people at SRIBD, including regular staff, visiting professors/scholars for short-term research, university professors and affiliated members working on scientific research projects and visiting students for training.

Since its establishment, SRIBD has made outstanding achievements in academics, scientific research, and industrialization. SRIBD members have published over 600 papers in top international journals. As leaders and core members, they have undertaken major and key projects in China and Guangdong Province. SRIBD has reached a series of milestones through strategic industrial partnerships with government agencies, enterprises and institutes, such as National Health Commission, Health Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, Science, Technology and Innovation Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, Shenzhen Judicial Bureau, Meteorological Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, Longgang District Science and Technology Innovation Commission, Longgang District People's Hospital, Luohu District People's Hospital, Huawei, Tencent, JD.com, China Mobile, China Unicom, Alibaba, China Southern Power Grid, Didi, CITIC, etc.
