The School of Data Science (SDS) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) invites applications for

the Rising Star (RS) Postdoctoral Fellowship.

01 / Requirements

1. Applicants must have already finished or be close to finishing their Ph.D. studies.

2. The RS Postdoctoral Fellowship is open to young scholars with diverse research backgrounds such as computer science, mathematics, statistics, and data science.

02 / Benefits

Competitive Package

The successful candidates will receive a highly competitive CUHK-Shenzhen salary of approximately RMB 560,000 per year (USD 80,000 per year) plus a personal allowance of  RMB 180,000* per year, resulting in a total annual income of RMB 740,000. In addition, a start-up fund of RMB 300,000 will be provided to each RS fellow for scientific travel reimbursements and related costs.

*The personal allowance comes through a national-provincial-city grant, which a candidate needs to submit an application for.

Each RS Fellowship applicant can select one or multiple professors of SDS listed below as his/her mentor(s). Each RS fellow is completely free to choose the topic of his or her research activity.

Flexible Work

The RS Postdoctoral Fellowship position involves no teaching load but each RS fellow has the option to contribute to the teaching activities of SDS if she/he would like to.

03 / Application

Criteria

No mentoring/supervision and teaching experience is required for the application and the only selection criterion is scientific excellence in the respective field of research of the applicant.

3. Deadline

The application deadline is August 15th, 2023 but applications thereafter will also be considered if not all RS Postdoctoral Fellowship positions have already been awarded.

4. Date of Commencement

The RS Postdoctoral Fellowship positions run for 2 years and the successful candidates can start as soon as they want but usually not later than April 2024. 

SDS Postdoctoral Prize

Each year the most outstanding of all RS Fellowship recipients and postdocs at the SDS will additionally be awarded the SDS Postdoctoral Prize comprising a plaque and the award of RMB 5,000. Prior winners of the SDS Postdoctoral Prize are excluded from winning the award a second time.
